Thanking Their Lucky Stars!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Last weekend, the Intakes team was contacted about four mill kids in a Mennonite puppy mill that were in need of rescue, or they would die. This particular miller releases their 'stock' to a local small rescue group. The group can only pull dogs when there are rescue groups committed to take them. The miller had a vet coming out on Monday morning to euthanize any remaining stock that was not 'needed' or rescued.

For years these kids spent their nights alone, out in the cold, or heat, or rain, or snow, wishing on the stars that they might be freed from their life of breeding. Three of them got their wish, and found freedom Saturday morning, when Col. Potter took them into the family.

The last little soul is still there, the miller realized she was pregnant. So she will have this litter, and with some more wishing on the stars, hopefully find her way to us. Our door is open for her, and I know I am wishing each night for her freedom.

Please help me welcome the three Lucky Stars kids:

Sterne - our boy, born in January of 2002. He weighs 15 pounds. His bottom was so matted with stool, that he was in pain. His mats were cut off, and he is feeling much better. He is the shyest of the group. His name means STAR in Middle English.

Tähti - a girl, is estimated to be between 5 and 7 years old. She weighs 18 pounds. She is friendly, yet shy. Her name means STAR in Finnish.

Sitara - a girl, also estimated to be between 5 and 7 years old. She weighs 20 pounds. She too is friendly yet shy. Her name means STAR in Sanskrit.

Thanks to Judy for helping move them to the vet on short notice and special thanks to our Rescue friend, who works to save all the dogs she can, may the stars shine down on her.

In this time of need as the winter closes in on all of us, and we gather our pups close, please think of the mill kids that will not make it out. Please do whatever you can to support our "New Leash on Life" fundraiser, so that Col. Potter can continue to shine on the ones who have a chance, by saying 'YES! Come join our family'.

WELCOME, LUCKY STARS!
