Welcome Col. Potter's Newest Couple!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

These two won their freedom Sunday from an auction. They haven't had an easy life up until this point, but it all changed for them when they became CP kids! That's the great thing about CP, we take the broken, unwanted and displaced furkids, and then we nurture them, care for them and teach them what freedom is and give them that second chance.

These two furkids know freedom thanks to Kathy and Barney H. attending yet another auction. They are named in honor of someone very special to the them ... a teacher who taught their daughters and is now fighting a battle to survive of her own. Here's a little history on who our newest two furkids Senora and Hoffman were named after:

Senora Mickey H. taught Spanish for years at my daughters’ high school and taught both of my daughters. She taught my oldest daughter, Spanish 3 over the summer between her sophomore and junior year so that she could complete 4&5 while in high school. My daughter went on to get her degree in Spanish/Education. Not only was she an inspirational teacher, she's been a mentor for both my teacher daughters, and a dear friend to us all. The other Spanish teacher also retired at the same time Senora did, and they've been lifelines for each other over the years - the other had eye problems that Senora has helped her thru, and now Judi is helping Mickey thru this battle. She was diagnosed with lung cancer early fall of '07, and was optimistic about the surgery/treatment outcome, but this spring was told things weren't looking good and that she might want to get her affairs in order. A bunch of her former students spent a weekend this spring cleaning her back yard and planting flowers for her as she's loved gardening and spending time out on her patio. Right now she's at a nursing home/rehab center after a 9 day hospital stay. They are trying to get her strong enough to go home with hospice.

Please help me welcome Senora and Hoffman:

Senora: F, DOB 7/14/04, 12.6 pounds

Hoffman: M, DOB 8/27/05, 15.9 pounds

Sounds like these two little furkids were named in honor of a pretty special lady ...
