CP says 'Hey Mr. Groundhog'

I don't know about the rest of you, but this has been one long, cold, snowy winter in the upper Midwest. I think there are quite a few of you in other parts of the country that will agree with me when I say "Hey Mr. Groundhog ... how about an early spring?" We all have heard of Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania, we have our own groundhog prognosticator here in Wisconsin and I know there are many more around the country. If they see their shadow, there are six more weeks of winter, but if they don't, then we can expect an early spring.

As much as we would all love to see an early spring, imagine the thousands of dogs that live outside in the elements in commercial breeding facilities. It may be a little inconvenient for us to have to shovel or plow snow or take a little longer to get to work, but these furkids have to live in these elements day in and day out. So, when we say "Hey Mr. Groundhog" these furkids are certainly hoping for an early spring as well.

Three little Cairn girls no longer have to worry about whether it will be an early spring or six more weeks of winter. They were lucky enough to find their way into the loving arms of Col. Potter on last weekend which means they got their early spring! Let's hope their names will be enough cold for this year and that an early spring is just around the corner.

Icicle: black brindle, born 6/17/05, this girl is very overweight at 27.4lbs

Snowflake: wheaten, 12-14 weeks old, weighing in at a whopping 5.4lbs




But wait, Hey Mr. Groundhog always seems to have one more surprise winter storm before spring finally arrives. CP's Hey Mr. Groundhog group is no different. It's not a surprise winter storm expected, but there are puppies expected!

Glacier is VERY pregnant with 5-6 puppies and is estimated to be due to whelp March 1. A small group of us have been working non-stop today to make arrangements to get Glacier flown to her foster home this weekend. Thanks to the dedicated help of volunteers in Transports and on the Rescue Team and foster mom, Glacier will be flying in cabin to Mississippi this Saturday to get settled in before welcoming her final litter of puppies -- just in time to welcome spring!

So, Hey Mr. Groundhog welcome to spring, welcome to freedom!
