Tingler’s Tail Will Triumph at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Tingler, a 12 pound 6 year old Wheaten Female

As the year draws to an end, one last little tail has just squeaked through the gates as the doors of 2013 are closing around the clan of Col. Potter - and it is a tale of great need, for sure.  It’s the tale of a young six year-old Wheaten Cairn girl, just barely 12 pounds of her, and how she came in from the cold.

It began on the streets of a small town in Delaware, where she had been trying to survive as a stray.  One day in December during his rounds, the “dog catcher” had picked up the frightened little dog and brought her to a local SPCA.  But, unfortunately for this Cairn, the SPCA was a kill shelter.  They treated her as kindly as they could, gave her vaccinations, fed her, and kept her warm enough, but, her time was running short at the shelter because it was the Holidays, and they were going to need room.

She had fleas so her skin itched, and she was losing fur, and, they told us, she is partially blind.  The people at the shelter were concerned about her future, and they determined that it would be better if she went to a Rescue organization to be cared for both physically and emotionally before being adopted out to her Forever home.  A kind adoption counselor contacted Col. Potter for help, and we answered the call.  Our wonderful volunteer, Doreen, willingly - and happily - gave up her Holiday time to go and pick up the little Cairn and bring her back home to the safety of Col. Potter.

So, how did this Cairn girl find such an unlikely way into Rescue?  How did the animal control officer find the very place where the dog was hunkering down?   How is it that the adoption counselor actually remembered the name of a Rescue group she had heard of quite some time ago?

Tingler is looking for a healthy, happy New Year!

Saving this little girl is the heart and soul of Rescue, and it all came together for her.  How do things like this happen?

Well… Perhaps, someone reached her hands down from the Rainbow Bridge and guided this lonely, frightened Cairn out of the darkness and into the light for the man to see her…  Perhaps her loving heart saw the desperate need of this animal, and she answered the need once again, whispering a soft reminder to the counselor...  Perhaps she rode shotgun with Doreen on the way to the shelter, and that’s why Doreen was laughing when she delivered her precious cargo... However she did it, her magic worked, and our new Cairn girl is safe inside the fold, and the full circle of the year can close around us.

So now let’s all of us at Col. Potter, with open hearts and open arms, welcome this special little girl “Tingler” to our clan - to her clan!  And thank you to our Rescue Angel, Marlene, for the gift of this beautiful dog, and for all of your gifts over the years to so many...

Col. Potter also wants to thank their own Board of Directors, Danielle R., Pam B., Amy R. and Mo K., for their generous gift to the Name a Rescue Cairn Program and their donation of the very special name “Tingler”, in honor of their dear friend.  Marlene is surely smiling to know that such a worthy little dog now carries her name.

Your friends will always remember you, Marlene… May your star shine brightly Forever!

Col. Potter Needs a Few More starships for Tingler’s companions, still lost and so afraid…
Please Volunteer to Foster and help us guide every Cairn in need to safety!

Kerry Keeps her Crown at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Kerry, a beautiful 7 year old Black Brindle Female

Please welcome little Kerry, the most Beautiful New Girl in town!  Kerry is 7 years old – for one more month only, but a girl needs to be discreet about her age, you know.  Kerry is a wee Black Brindle at 15 pounds, but she’s a real bombshell, with a definite mind of her own, we are told - and that’s good, ‘cuz that’s the way, uh huh, uh huh, we like them!

Kerry came from loving owners who themselves had just rescued her from being a casualty in a family dispute.  They gave her sanctuary and intended to give her a fine home.  Once she was safe, unselfishly, they realized that with two other dogs at home, a big personality like Kerry would not get the attention she needs.  Inquiries were made and these caring people surrendered Kerry to the care of Col. Potter.  Kudos to them!

Kerry is 15 pounds and full of spirit!

Kerry is named after County Kerry in the southwestern region of Ireland.  The name comes from an ancient tribe named the “Ciar.”  In old Irish, Ciar means black or dark brown.  Now isn’t that appropriate for this Black Brindle beauty?? Foster Mom is delighted!

So here she is, a new member of the Col. Potter clan!  Let’s give a big hearty welcome to Kerry, our very own Rose of Tralee!

"The moon through the valley her pale rays was shedding, when I won the heart of the Rose of Tralee"

Oh to win the heart of a Rose of Tralee - the most beautiful girl in the whole of Ireland, or the world, such is the spread and appeal of this prestigious Irish beauty pageant inspired by that very song.  The Rose of Tralee is held in the Co. Kerry town of Tralee each August and has evolved into much more than a simple beauty pageant. From its humble beginnings in 1959, when the festival budget was just £750, the Rose Of Tralee has emerged as one of the most important events in the Irish social calendar, second only to St Patrick's Day for its colour, fervour and popularity. And that's only because St Paddy's Day is declared a public holiday!

Col. Potter Needs a Few More Runways for our Beautiful Contestants!
Please Volunteer to Foster and help us find a winning pageant for every Cairn in need!

Roxanne Marks 1 Year in Forever!

Pawtributed by CP Roxanne aka Roxie

Mommy asked me to take a break from my toys to sit for a 1 Year photo!

It’s me!  Roxanne! Can you believe I have been here in my Forever Home for a Whole Year?!!!

Look at my New Boots!  I LOVE the snow now!!
Of course I LOVE being outside on the grass too!

Mommy and Daddy are so Happy, they decorated the house and took a nice green tree from outside (where I love to be!) and brought it in the house!  They put all kinds of decorations on it and – best of all – they put a whole bunch of packages under the bottom branches!  Full of Toys!!!!
My sister Rye, also a CP girl, likes to dress up too!!
Mommy kept calling it a “Christmas Tree”, and she was very nice and put things under there for my sister Rye and my brother, Jasper, too, but I know it was all to celebrate my arrival last December!  I sure hope they do this every year!
We also love to cuddle in Mommy’s lap!
Mommy was also saying how happy she was that I have learned so, so, so much this year!  I learned, for example, to sit and wait for my own bowl of food, and because I have been so good, I can eat in the kitchen now with everyone else!  I also learned that I don’t have to worry about protecting my toys and my bones – nobody here is going to take them away from me!  I even share them with Rye and Jasper and they let me play with their stuff as well!
Even better than that, I learned that I LOVE sleeping in bed with Mommy and Daddy and Rye and Jasper!  It is soooooo much nicer than staying in my crate all night!  Happy!  Happy!  Happy!
It is not fun to be sick…
I wasn’t feeling good a while back, and I found out that my Mommy and Daddy loved me so much, they took me to the doctor and took really good care of me, made me feel all better again!  And another thing:  I decided my groomer was worthy of my trust and I let her trim my nails with no fuss whatsoever!  Took a while, but I got there!
…but my Mommy and Daddy took very good care of me!
Well, back in July, I said you should “look for me here in another six months” and I hope you agree it was worth the effort!   All and all, I’d say it’s been a very good year and I hope to have more happy stories for you Next December!

Happy New Year to you all!

Love,
Roxanne

Ty Settles in Forever!

CP Ty getting settled in Forever!

Michigan?!!!  Never heard of it before, but we are certainly not in Florida anymore!

New sister Tartan and Ty sit for cookies

CP Ty here!  You might recall that, back in June, I had a Big change in my life after many years with one family.  I was just getting settled into my Foster Home in Florida, when up, up, and away I go – this time to Michigan!  I flew here in a great big airplane!  My new Mom drove to the airport to pick me up, and my new Gramps and Grammy watched my flight on the computer – tracking it, sort of like I would track a snake or a lizard!

Grandpa and Grandma track Ty’s flight from Florida

Ty meeting Mom - Cheek to cheek!

After I met my new Mom – and did all the hugging and stuff – I finally got to meet my new sister, Tartan.  She’s still making her mind up about me (playing hard to get!), but I like her just fine!  I am glad my New Mom fell under my spell so quickly!  She just had to take me along to work with her to show me off, and I love riding with her and meeting lots of new people!

Ty learns about snuggling, far from the warmth of Florida!

Oops!  I didn’t mean to step on that little button, Mom…

So, Michigan, smishigan, who cares if it's not Florida!  I love my new Mom and I am planting myself right here Forever!

Take a look at Ty’s CP Intake story:

CP Valtteri nka Fritzi Sees his Future Clearly!

Contributed by Fritzi fka Cp Valtteri

CP Valtteri nka Fritzi
Fritzi here!  I know you knew me for so many months as CP Valtteri - and I really did love my time with Foster Mom, Suzanne H. on Vancouver Island – but now I am Fritzi and I am thrilled!  Even the two cats here are easy to get along with!

Speaker, Fritzi, and Benny behold the beauty of nature!
I have two great dog companions, Benny the Whippet and Speaker the Lab, and the fun we have is so exciting!  I know my Mom sent you pictures of us all laying around, relaxing, or contemplating the beauty of nature, but we also do something that is way more fun!  Mom loves taking us for walks and hikes, but the best part is coming home when we get to play “race-horse”!  Mom opens the driveway gates and the three of us race the length of the driveway to the finish line!  WooHoo!!!  It is so much fun!  Mom says the noises I make during this daily race are so funny, it has become one of the highlights of her day too!

Fritzi and Benny catching a few rays!
Fritzi hanging out with Speaker and Benny
Fritzi loves to ride shotgun on the back of the sofa!

Not bad for a 10 year old Cairn, pretty much blinded by cataracts!

My Mom says that she has a lot of respect for this little Cairn, and she is so glad she adopted me!  As I look at the present and the future, I think it is safe to say that the feelings are absolutely mutual!

Fritzi loves his toys!
Life is looking good!

Thank you Col. Potter and Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year!
